May 26th is National Paper Airplane Day. Work through the engineering design process to create a paper airplane that can fly the farthest.
ASK: How do paper airplanes fly?
|
|
PLAN: What kind of paper airplane will you make using a single piece of 8/5" x 11" paper?
CREATE: Make 1 or 2 different paper airplanes that will fly the farthest. Use the tutorials below or create a different design.

TEST & IMPROVE: Find a large space to test your design. Throw your designs several times and make changes. Select one design that you think with fly the farthest. Throw it 3 times and mark each distance.
EXTENSION: With your new understanding of paper airplanes, try something new. Create a target on the floor or cut from paper, add weight to your airplane, or make an entirely different design, like the straw airplane.
